Seri Mulia Sarjana International School (SMSIS) recently held a two-day event at a hotel in Gadong, highlighting the achievements of students in both academic and co-curricular fields. It underscored the school’s commitment to excellence, creativity and holistic education.
SMSIS held its 26th graduation ceremony on November 21 honouring the achievements of Year 6 and Reception students.
Canadian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Ambra Dickie and Counsellor Wang Haitao of the Chinese Embassy in Brunei Darussalam were present to celebrate the students’ successes.
Students were recognised for their academic achievements with bronze, silver and gold awards. Additionally, top-performing students were awarded trophies, medals and certificates for their outstanding performances in local and international competitions.
Acting Principal (Preschool and Primary Section) Putri Maharani noted that the young students have blossomed into confident, curious and kind individuals, ready to take on the world.
She highlighted their participation in the Love Box project, which supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by providing toys, goodies and learning materials to the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital’s Paediatric Unit and underprivileged children.
Furthermore, K3 pupils secured a championship at the United Arab Emirates GEMA Student Speaker Awards and a K2 pupil was a winner in the Learner Art Awards from ICA UK.
Putri Maharani expressed her gratitude to the teachers who nurtured the young minds, creating a warm and supportive learning environment.
She also acknowledged the school’s English Department for achieving gold at the Queens Commonwealth Essays, bringing global recognition to SMSIS.
There was also Year 6 graduation ceremony honouring 160 graduates. Putri Maharani, in a speech during the ceremony, highlighted the students’ community spirit, exemplified by their participation in the ‘Stride as One’ charity event, where they contributed to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and the Impian Project.
She encouraged the graduates to remember the lessons learned at SMSIS, to be kind, curious and brave and to strive to be the best versions of themselves.
The following day, the recognition and awarding ceremony took place, with Microsoft Country Manager to Brunei Darussalam Akfash Latibu as the guest of honour.
Students also showcased their talents through performances, including piano, taekwondo, speech, drama, dance medleys and other cultural displays. Both events highlighted SMSIS’s dedication to fostering lifelong learners, innovators and leaders. – Lyna Mohamad
