The demand for healthcare services is growing and the global health landscape is rapidly evolving. This needs to be addressed while healthcare leaders need to be strengthened to lead the charge in innovating, elevating and enhancing healthcare delivery, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar.
He said this during the inauguration of the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) Scholarship Programme in ‘Building the Future Workforce in Healthcare.’
The programme aims to support young talents pursuing nursing studies and foster the future generation of healthcare professionals to combat the nurse shortage faced nationwide. The minister who is also the Chairman of JPMC and Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre said the event symbolises JPMC’s commitment towards empowering youth and investing towards a brighter future for healthcare.
The five JPMC scholars are Nur Athirah Muti’ah binti Haji Hamdilah, Nuramirah Raihana binti Abdullah Md Rozidi, Dayangku Nur Farahana Izzati binti Pengiran Suhanizen, Nurin Natasha Khairina binti Haji Hassan and Nur Amanina Fikriah binti Sofian.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham congratulated the five individuals, stating that they were awarded the scholarship after an assessment on their potential, academic excellence and their dedication to the healthcare vocation.
The scholars will be enrolled in JPMC College of Health Sciences next month.
“Through this avenue, JPMC will also facilitate funding for continuing education and certification programmes that will serve as a stepping stone in their professional development,” said the minister, adding that the scholars are aspiring to become nursing professionals.
“They believe nursing is not just a career, it is a calling, rooted in compassion and profound desire to serve others,” he said.
Upon completion of their studies, the scholars will be onboard by JPMC to kickstart their careers. – Azlan Othman
