Over 1,500 students, teachers, parents and guardians of Chung Hua Middle School, Kuala Belait, completed a loop across Belait Town yesterday as part of a jogathon organised in conjunction with Family Day celebrations.
Starting from the school compound, the jogathon aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle among the participants, who had a brief warming-up session before being flagged off by Principal Dr Chong Kui Kian and the school’s board of directors for the 1.27-kilometre loop that crossed scenic locations in Belait Town.
The objective was also to raise funds, with proceeds going to the Belait District Charity Fund and the school’s own Student Assistance Fund.
Dr Chong told the Bulletin that the jogathon was themed ‘Happy Cheerful Students’ (Kanak-Kanakku Ceria). “We wanted to create opportunities for the students to grow and develop, not only with their friends but also with their families; as they spend the morning exercising and walking hand in hand, while appreciating the sights of the Belait District.”
A number of booths and stalls were also set up at the school as part of the event to showcase arts and crafts. Prizes were handed out to the students for their participation during the closing ceremony.
