KUCHING (The Borneo Post) – Chef Michelle Goh, a native of Kuching, Sarawak, has made history as the youngest female Malaysian chef and the first Sarawakian to be awarded a prestigious Michelin star.
This recognition comes as Michelin acknowledged the excellence of Mia Restaurant Bangkok, where Goh is a co-founder alongside Thai chef Pongcharn “Top” Russell.
Goh serves as the chef patron at Mia Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Sukhumvit Soi 26 in Bangkok. The term ‘chef patron’ in culinary arts denotes a chef who not only skillfully oversees the kitchen but also owns and manages the restaurant.
Hailing from Kuching, Goh honed her culinary skills at Le Cordon Bleu Sydney and gained valuable experience under renowned chefs, including the Three-Hatted Eleven Bridge by Neil Perry in Australia. Recognised with the ‘Young Chef of the Year’ award, Goh has led Mia Restaurant to acclaim for having the ‘Best Dessert Menu’ by Bk Top Tables.
Despite her young age, Goh’s culinary journey took her to Pollen under Jason Atherton in Singapore and, before Mia Restaurant, she assumed leadership of the pastry section at the two Michelin-starred restaurant Suhring in Bangkok at the remarkable age of 23.
Goh’s commitment to continuous learning is evident, as she utilises her limited free time to glean insights from industry giants like Anna Polyviou. Her journey reflects not just culinary prowess but a dedication to mastering her craft in diverse culinary landscapes.
