(ANN/KOREA HERALD) – Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are intensifying their efforts to capture a share of the rapidly growing robot vacuum market, currently dominated by China’s Roborock, by introducing new machines designed to address the common drawbacks of existing products.
This week, LG Electronics is launching its first all-in-one robot vacuum and mop machine in 21 years, marking its return to the market since the debut of its initial model in 2003.
Similarly, Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new robot vacuum and mop combo, equipped with advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and lidar for enhanced performance.
Despite South Korea being home to global home appliance leaders like Samsung and LG, the domestic robot vacuum market has been largely dominated by Roborock, which also leads on the global stage.
For three consecutive years, Roborock has held the top spot in the Korean market, capturing a 46.5 per cent share in the first half of this year, according to market research firm Euromonitor International. In 2023, over 80 per cent of Korea’s domestic robot vacuum market was controlled by Chinese manufacturers, including Dreame and Ecovacs.
