Royal Bees 42nd in world rankings

Brunei Darussalam’s national netball team has been ranked in 42nd place by the world governing body World Netball (WN) following the publication of its latest world rankings recently.

The latest world rankings show that Brunei received a rating of 11 points, one short of Dominica and Eswatini.

The national team, widely known as the Royal Bees, competed in the Hong Kong Four Nations 2024 last January in what was a first international meet this year.

The Royal Bees endured a barren run with losses to hosts Hong Kong, Philippines and eventual winners Papua New Guinea in the preliminary round before taking their place in the bronze medal match.

The Southeast Asian Games bronze medallists met their regional rivals Philippines, who had previously beaten them 51-46.

However, Brunei left the court with a 53-44 defeat to the Philippines and missed out on bronze in the playoff.

Australia topped the current world rankings followed by New Zealand and England in second and third place.

The latest installment of the world rankings took into account matches completed by the ranked teams up to March 1. – Fadhil Yunus
