The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) yesterday reassured the public that all Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) personnel are safe in Sidon, south Lebanon.
This follows reports of an attack on a convoy transporting the Malaysian Battalion 850-12 (MALBATT 850-12) contingent on Thursday.
According to the MinDef, one bus was hit by shrapnel from an explosion, injuring an officer and five other ranks. The injuries were minor and were treated by the Lebanese medical team at the scene.
The ministry confirmed that the convoy safely arrived at its destination at 11.10pm Brunei time and all RBAF personnel are accounted for.
The public is urged not to spread speculation or false information about the incident. Such actions are an offence under Section 34 of the Public Order Act, Chapter 148.
A 30-member RBAF contingent, including three officers and 27 other ranks, two of whom are women, has been deployed to Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission alongside the MALBATT 850-12. The first group of three RBAF personnel departed on November 6. The remaining personnel will be deployed in three subsequent flights tomorrow and on November 14 and 18. – James Kon
