Guide to Islamic family law launched at book festival

Bunga Rampai: Undang-Undang Keluarga Islam, a comprehensive book on Islamic family law was officially launched yesterday at the main stage of the Brunei Book Festival 2024 at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

Authored by Mohammad Shahray Zulkifli, a Syar’ie lawyer with over 20 years of experience in Brunei, Bunga Rampai is a comprehensive resource on Islamic family law. The book represents the culmination of five years of meticulous research.

Drawing on hundreds of legal cases, books, articles, social media content, news clippings and interviews with Brunei Syariah Courts staff, Bunga Rampai offers in-depth analysis across 17 chapters.

Spanning 448 pages, the book delves into various family law issues including marriage and polygamy; divorce and post-divorce claims; and contemporary issues such as gender matters, monkeypox, domestic narcissism and extremist beliefs.

Bunga Rampai highlights the unique characteristics of Brunei’s Islamic family law system, which allows non-Muslim parties to seek resolution within the Syariah court. The publication elevates the recognition of Brunei’s Islamic family law framework on a broader scale.

Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) Acting Director Hajah Haireni binti Haji Awang Damit officiated the event.
