The Public Works Department (JKR) has implemented several improvement projects to enhance the quality of road and highway infrastructure, in the 2023-2024 financial year, including the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Highway, the Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah Highway, the Muara-Belait Highway, the Tungku-Rimba Highway and the Tungku-Jerudong Highway.
Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid said this in delivering the Ministry of Development’s budget for the 2024-2025 financial year during the 20th session of the Legislative Council meeting yesterday.
Road maintenance works in Kuala Balai, Mukim Liang, Mukim Bukit Sawat, Sukang, Jalan Rasau–Sungai Teraban, Jalan Kuala Tutong, Kampong Panchong and Kuala Ungar have also been carried out.
Other maintenance works include a road repair project from Kanpong Jerudong to Kampong Penanjong which will continue under the 12th National Development Plan.
A number of extension projects from the 11th National Development Plan are also targeted to be completed this year, including the provision of flyovers at the Jalan Utama Menteri (Mengkubau housing area) intersection, the Jalan Muara intersection and the Muara-Tutong Highway (Tanjung Kajar) and the Tanah Jambu main road intersection.
Meanwhile, the installation of traffic lights at the roundabout in Sungai Akar is expected to be completed next month.
In addition, JKR is teaming up with district offices to level roads in the Tutong, Belait and Temburong districts. – Azlan Othman
