Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), though the Faculty of Arabic Language (FBA), organised an appreciation and prize presentation ceremony for Arabic Language Festival on Saturday, in conjunction with World Arabic Language Day 2023.
FBA Dean Dr Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Abdullah, as chairperson of the festival, highlighted the importance of learning Arabic language at a young age. She said the teaching and learning of Arabic language is significant and in line with the development of Islamic teaching and Arab culture.
She added that the strategy to ensure the success of teaching Arabic language for children is by holding contests, such as poetry.
The event saw video presentations and performances, followed by Saudi Arabia Ambassador in Brunei Darussalam Mohammed Abdullah Al-Buraithin, the guest of honour, presenting prizes to the winners.
The festival, hosted annually by the university, was officiated on December 18, 2023, and saw several competitions in Arabic language such as poetry, storytelling, public speaking, Mau’izah Hasanah and spelling contest.
The event’s objective was to celebrate Arabic language speakers and to elevate the status of the language in the country.
