QueUp goes offline following data breach

QueUp developer Rhymin & Partners announced that the application will be made offline following a data breach.

The company said it is working with Cyber Security Brunei to mitigate the impacts of the incident, adding that it will be keeping the public updated.

It said all appointments made prior to on Thursday will be honoured and users should present their booking references or identification cards (IC) at the counters.

Students participate in financial literacy competition

The Ministry of Education (MoE), through the Entrepreneurship Innovation Centre (EIC) in collaboration with the Curriculum Development Department, held a convention for the 4th Celik-Biz Competition and the 9th BigStart Competition for primary and secondary students nationwide.

Deputy Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Aliuddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman was the guest of honour.

The convention began with a welcoming speech from event Chairperson and Head of EIC at the MoE Adna Shatriremie bin Haji A Abdul Rahman.

Flood-hit Johor sees over 5,500 evacuees; almost 6,500 in Sabah

CNA – More than 5,500 and close to 6,500 flood evacuees have had to flee their homes in Johor and Sabah respectively amid the northeast monsoon which has brought continuous heavy rain to several Malaysian states.

As of noon on Thursday, Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) recorded 5,528 flood victims in Johor and 6,331 flood victims in Sabah.

This is an increase from the 3,937 flood victims in Johor recorded by the agency 24 hours prior.

Bernama reported that 55 relief centres have been opened in Johor as of 8am yesterday to house the flood evacuees. Segamat was the most affected district in Johor, followed by Kluang and Mersing, according to the state disaster management committee on Wednesday.

Eight dead after ship sinks near Japan

BEIJING (AFP) – Eight people are dead, including six Chinese nationals, after a ship sank in waters off the coast of Japan, a Chinese diplomat said on Thursday.

The Jin Tian, carrying crew from China and Myanmar, sent a distress signal on Tuesday evening from a position around 110 kilometres west of the remote and uninhabited Danjo Islands in far southwestern Japan.

The ship’s captain used a satellite phone to tell the South Korean coast guard that he and the crew would abandon the sinking ship in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Jeju coast guard said.

Sultan graces OCS’s 21st intake Sovereign’s Parade

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, graced the Sovereign’s Parade Ceremony for the 21st intake of officer cadets of the Officer Cadet School (OCS) on Thursday.
 
Accompanying His Majesty at the ceremony, which was held at the Parade Square of the Defence Academy, Royal Brunei Armed Forces ( DA RBAF) in Kampung Tanah Jambu, was His Royal Highness 920 Major (U) Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
 
His Majesty received the Royal Salute and inspected the Parade, which was commanded by 1273 Captain (U) Muhd Shah Redzuan bin Haji Mat Serudin followed with a march-past by the officer cadets.
 
His Majesty also delivered a titah that among others highlighted the need for a leadership model with the Bruneian character to produce credible military leaders.

This was proceeded with the awards presentation to the best officer cadets of the 21st intake. 
 
The passing out parade saw a total of 64 officer cadets commissioned as officers of the RBAF.

The awards preceded with a presentation of the Sword of Honour to Officer Cadet Awang Muhd Asyraf bin Haji Awang Amin, who holds a Bachelor Degree in Law (LLB) from London South Bank University, which is the highest award, bestowed by His Majesty to an officer cadet.

Fostering long-standing Brunei-Malaysia bonds of kinship

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam underscored the similarities between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia in a titah during an official luncheon yesterday.

Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia enjoy a close and long-standing relationship between the royal family, the government and people of all levels which stems from the similarities in history, religion, community and language, His Majesty said.

Furthermore, the challenges from COVID-19 have further strengthened these bonds of kinship and allowed both countries to move into the recovery phase with the determination to intensify cooperation between the two countries that were affected during the pandemic, the Sultan said.

His Majesty said this in a titah during an official luncheon in conjunction with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and spouse Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail’s visit to the country.

His Majesty welcomed joint initiatives towards regenerating economic growth in various fields, including the signing of the memorandum of understanding in the field of investment.

His Majesty also underscored the importance of the Annual Leaders’ Consultation as the main mechanism in enhancing bilateral cooperation and formulating future directions, as well as ensuring the continued commitment of both countries in implementing the ‘Exchange of Letters’ agreed by both countries more than 10 years ago.

His Majesty added that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has a role in maintaining regional peace and stability, and that ‘ASEAN Centrality’ should continue to be emphasised. In that regard, His Majesty expressed confidence that Malaysia’s leadership as the “Permanent Shepherd” in producing the “ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision” will ensure ASEAN remains relevant in the region.

During the official luncheon, His Majesty also congratulated Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim on his appointment as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, and expressed confidence that Dato’ Seri’s vision of “Developing Malaysia Madani”, will bring long-lasting progress and prosperity to the people of Malaysia.

In ending the titah, His Majesty hoped that the relationship between the leaders would continue to be noble and blessed by Allah the Almighty.

Meanwhile, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a speech expressed appreciation for the friendship between the two countries, which is based on a long history as well as the tradition of the Malay Islamic Sultanate which has contributed to the development of bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.

The Malaysian Premier welcomed the continued growth in bilateral economic and investment cooperation, and further emphasised the importance of ensuring the special relationship and dedication in implementing any agreement is carried out sincerely.

At the end of the speech, the Malaysian Prime Minister invited His Majesty to visit Malaysia.

The official luncheon was held at Baitur Rahmah, Istana Nurul Iman and began with a Doa Selamat recited by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.

Also present were members of the royal family and the Malaysian delegation.

MoU signing cements future Brunei-Malaysia investment agreements

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday witnessed the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Brunei Investment Agency (BIA) at Baitul Mesyuarah, Istana Nurul Iman following a fruitful four-eye meeting with the visiting Malaysian Premier.

Signing on behalf of the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was BIA Acting Managing Director Haji Sofian bin Mohammad Jani, while the Government of Malaysia was represented by MIDA Chief Executive Officer Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman.

The MoU provides an initial understanding for both parties to hold negotiations towards the implementation and preparation of further agreements on bilateral investment that can be carried out by certain parties between Brunei and Malaysia. The MoU will also include bilateral cooperation and investment in the downstream oil and gas sector, digital economy, smart manufacturing, smart agriculture, artificial intelligence, tourism and the halal food industry.

Four-eye meeting enhances bilateral cooperation

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday held a four-eye meeting with Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia as well as efforts to further enhance cooperation between both countries including through the signing of the memorandum of understanding in the field of investment.

Both leaders also discussed on the exploration of new opportunities for cooperation that will be mutually beneficial for both countries.
