Brunei Darussalam Arbitration Centre (BDAC), in collaboration with Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC), organised a Brown Bag session on ‘The Power of Mediation: Importance of Mediation to Legal Professionals’ on Wednesday via Zoom.

The online interactive discussion saw 44 participants attending from the government, private sectors, law students, academics as well as individuals from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

SMC’s principal trainer Loong Seng Onn was the guest speaker. An experienced dispute resolution trainer, overseeing SMC’s training work and conducting training workshops across the world, Loong was one of the trainers who trained the first batch of SMC-BDAC accredited mediators.

The event was moderated by BDAC Legal Officer Rafidah Mohd Raffi.

During the Brown Bag session, Loong shared his perspectives on the importance of mediation and how it can benefit legal professionals and their clients. He also shared best practices in achieving successful outcomes for the parties in disputes. This course is an introductory part and a continuation to the BDAC Mediation Advocacy Course, which will be held in June 2023.

BDAC was established to provide arbitration and mediation services in order to meet the needs of domestic and international users. The Brown Bag session discussion was the first of its kind event to be organised by BDAC and was intended to increase awareness on mediation and as part of BDAC’s effort to be the preferred venue for the settlement of disputes whether commercial or non-commercial.
