Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof during the ongoing 21st Legislative (LegCo) Council meeting on Monday addressed the government’s efforts to ensure that national policies remain in line with Brunei’s Vision 2035 (Wawasan 2035). “Management executives are continuously reviewing key areas to ensure that every initiative is well-planned and effectively implemented,” he said.
He emphasised that specific aspects of national development are regularly assessed to determine their impact and feasibility. “Certain effects are being reviewed periodically to ensure that policies remain relevant and beneficial,” he noted.
While several transformation initiatives have already been implemented, he acknowledged that there are still ongoing efforts to refine and expand these measures. “It is too early to expect immediate changes, as these developments require careful evaluation and phased implementation,” he said. “We must continue to assess and improve the strategies already in place to achieve optimal outcomes.”
Neighbourhood watch plays key role in community safety
On public safety, the minister highlighted the importance of grassroots leadership and community engagement through neighbourhood watch programmes.
“Local leaders and community representatives must take proactive roles in maintaining security and addressing activities that may affect social well-being,” he said.
He acknowledged that social dynamics within residential areas are evolving, and there is a need for stronger cooperation between residents and authorities. “With changes in demographics and increasing external influences, it is crucial for communities to work together in ensuring a safe and harmonious environment,” he added.
The minister also stressed the need for public awareness and participation in security initiatives, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fostering safer communities through collaborative efforts. – Fadley Faisal
