Natural Born Thrillers (NBT) were crowned champions in the annual Aewon Basketball Challenge Cup 2024 after defeating T Best at the New Village basketball court in Seria on Sunday.
The most valuable player (MVP) of the Cup, NBT’s Zhang Yu recalled how the game was evenly matched in the first and second periods, noting how both teams brought their A-game to the court.
NBT secured a small lead in the third period and grew in the final period as the final ended with the score 90-83.
Legislative Council (LegCo) member and Penghulu of Mukim Bukit Sawat Yang Berhormat Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Othman was the guest of honour at the finals.
He was welcomed along with representatives of sponsors and supporters by Belait District Basketball Association (BDBA) Chairman Koo Kong Loi.
The LegCo member presented the trophies and medals to NBT and T Best, as well as Spice Treasure and Megalift in third and fourth places, who competed in the second runner-up match.
Spice Treasure put up a 12-point lead in the first period. Despite Megalift closing the gap in the third period, Spice Treasure ended the match with a final score of 90-78.
Organised by BDBA, the event was held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration. – Daniel Lim
