Flag hoisting ceremonies took place across the country yesterday as citizens prepare to celebrate Brunei Darussalam’s 40th National Day.
In the Brunei-Muara District, a flag hoisting and distribution ceremony was held at the district office, with Acting Brunei-Muara District Officer Pengiran Muhammad Ameer Mubarak bin Pengiran Haji Hashim as the guest of honour.
After the national flag was hoisted by personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), and the singing of the national anthem, the acting district officer distributed national flags to grassroots leaders and representatives of agencies, associations and non-governmental organisations.
In the Tutong District, a similar ceremony was held at the Civic Centre Complex. Acting Tutong District Officer Mohammad Sofian bin Haji Basri, the guest of honour, distributed national flags to grassroots leaders. Students of secondary schools in the district were also present. In the Temburong District, the ceremony was held at Dermaga Pekan Bangar with Acting Temburong District Officer Mohamad Yassin bin Haji Ahmad, the guest of honour, distributing flags to grassroots leaders and heads of government agency branches in the district.
In the Belait District, the ceremony was conducted at Menara Cendera Kenangan, with Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad as the guest of honour.
The choir group from the Belait Sixth Form Centre sang the national anthem alongside the flag hoisting by the RBPF.
Cadets, scouts and students of various schools in the district were also present. Legislative Council members were also present at the ceremonies. Brunei Darussalam celebrates its 40th National Day on February 23. – James Kon, Rokiah Mahmud & Daniel Lim
