    Multiple labour offences uncovered

The Labour Department conducted several operations recently, one of which was at a restaurant in Kampong Lambak Kanan, where two violations of the Employment Order, 2009 were found.

Among the offences were the unauthorised wage cuts not approved by the Labour Commissioner, and employees holding the position of waiters working as cooks. Meanwhile, an inspection in Kampong Beribi found a foreign national guaranteed by the company in the position of a baker working as a vendor.

If found guilty, the employer may face a fine up to BND1,000 and failure to pay the compound fine will result in the employer being brought to court.

The agency also reminded employers the placement of foreign workers at benches, pushcarts, booths, kiosks and stalls are prohibited. – Azlan Othman
