Several motorists using Rasau Road in the Belait District have reported similar incidents involving a large pothole just before Rasau Bridge, which has caused damage to vehicles, particularly tyres, and posed a serious safety risk.
One road user, Haji Mohammad, recounted his recent experience, stating that he was unaware of the pothole’s presence as he was driving in the evening.
“I was driving when my car suddenly hit the pothole, causing me to nearly lose control of my vehicle. I immediately knew there was damage, and upon stopping to check, I found that both my front and rear right tyres, which I had just replaced, were affected. The rims were also visibly deformed,” he shared.

A passerby who stopped to assist him mentioned that several motorists had encountered similar incidents, with some narrowly avoiding accidents after hitting the pothole.
Additionally, there have been reports of another pothole near a nearby petrol station, where the impact has led to tyre blowouts, forcing drivers to pull over to prevent further mishaps.
Motorists also noted that the pothole near Rasau Bridge has been present for some time and is difficult to spot, particularly in low visibility conditions such as at night or during heavy rain. Those driving at high speeds face an even greater risk of losing control.
Following his ordeal, Imran urged road users, particularly those heading towards the border, to remain cautious and avoid potential mishaps. He has since reported the matter to the authorities via the 123 hotline. – Lyna Mohammad
