The 5th Mosque Youth Empowerment Programme: Empowerment Series implemented by the Executive Committee of the Nationwide Mosque Youth Council in collaboration with the Youth Affairs Division of the Mosque Affairs Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA), was held recently.
Themed ‘Mosque Youth and Best Practices’, the programme featured a presentation session where participants showcased projects based on interviews with several active mosque youth across the country. This provided initial exposure to understanding the scope, activities, and journey of mosque youth in Brunei.
Additionally, the event aimed to deepen their understanding of their role in society and the impact they can make within the community. The empowerment programme is one of the initiatives undertaken by the National Mosque Youth to motivate and equip young individuals interested in becoming mosque youth with the necessary knowledge and skills to uphold the mosque’s role in the community.
It serves as a foundation to produce high-calibre, creative, and knowledgeable mosque youth.
The programme was conducted in five sessions, held twice a month, covering topics such as ‘Mosque Youth and Big Why’, ‘Mosque Youth and Time Management’, and ‘Towards a Better Me’ motivation sessions.
Additionally, participants aspiring to become mosque youth took part in the Youth Camp Programme at Jamalul Alam Mosque last December, with each series attracting around 40 to 50 participants, including a camping session.
The existence of the council serves as an umbrella body that unites the mosque youth movement in the country, providing a relevant and essential platform to coordinate activities and align their vision with MoRA’s policies and goals. This ensures a more organised and effective youth movement across all mosques.
Through this programme, mosques can serve as centres for knowledge and social engagement, enriching the community with religious, youth, and social activities.
