In response to the article ‘Payment delays devastate construction firms’ by Mr Debtor, published in the Opinion Page of the Bulletin dated December 11, the Treasury Department at the Ministry of Finance and Economy (MoFE) would like to thank the writer for expressing his concerns on the issues of delay in the payment processes affecting contractors.
The writer had informed that the payments owing included some which are overdue two years ago, was due to the new Treasury Accounting and Financial Information System (TAFIS) 2.0.
It is important to note that TAFIS 2.0 was only implemented in April 2024. Fundamentally, be it before and after the roll-out of TAFIS 2.0, any payments submitted for the Treasury Department’s approval depends on the submission of completed documents the respective departments have confirmed to be in order, in line with the Government’s Financial Regulations.
The Treasury Department is continuously working closely with government departments to resolve any issues arising either due to system or processes to ensure payments to recipients and vendors are made promptly.
To help resolve this matter, the Treasury Department encourages the writer and vendors facing payment issues to come to the Payment Unit Counter, Level 2 Island Block, MoFE Building from Monday to Thursday and Saturday, from 8.30am-noon and 2pm-3.30pm.
The Treasury Department while apologising for the inconvenience, assured all vendors that is committed to resolve all outstanding issues as soon as possible.
For enquiries, vendors can contact the Treasury Department’s Customer Care Centre at 7419444/7479444 or email to TAFIS 2.0 Helpdesk at tafis.ppp@mofe.gov.bn.
