Chief Executive Officer/Director of Technical Education at the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli highlighted the importance of modern agriculture in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0, where the use of current technologies like drones and modern farming machinery makes agriculture more appealing to the younger generation.
Dr Haji Mohd Zamri who served as the Chairman of the International Agrotechnology Festival 2023 also highlighted that the festival has the potential to strengthen cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia.
The closing ceremony of the International Agrotechnology Festival 2023, jointly organised by IBTE and Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS) in Kuantan, Pahang, was held at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday.
The two-week festival, which began on October 1 featured student exchange programmes such as the EAMEO Voctech Student Exchange Programme, an International Conference on Agrotechnology, Food Science and Technology (ICAFST) 2023 and the 2023 Innovative Product Competition.
Dr Haji Mohd Zamri also stated that these festivals can encourage youth and students to be farmers, as without them, the future of the global agricultural industry and food supply is uncertain.
Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Dato’ Raja Reza bin Raja Zaib Shah, Deputy Director-General (Governance) of the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education, Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia Kamaluddin bin Daud and POLISAS Director Hajah Norehan binti Silek were present.
The closing ceremony continued with the presentation of certificates to participants in the second batch of the SEAMEO Voctech Exchange Student Programme between IBTE and POLISAS.
The event also featured a prize giving ceremony to the winners of the ICAFST 2023 and the 2023 Innovative Product Competition. – Adib Noor
