The Ministry of Education (MoE) is committed to ensuring that digital infrastructure is in place at all schools, said Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh during the 20th session of the Legislative Council meeting yesterday. “Laptops are provided to teachers, and Internet connectivity extended to all schools, including those in remote areas. Continuous training sessions are being conducted to enhance the capacity and mindset of teachers in utilising technologies effectively.”
The minister also said that projects such as smart classrooms, blended learning, learning management systems and digital resource management system have been updated, notably, the digital resource management system, launched in May 2023 which contains digital educational resources for various educational levels. On the transition to e-textbooks, the minister acknowledged the need to address copyright issues, device management and Internet accessibility before full implementation.
There are also plans to review contracts and explore the digital book option to ease students’ burdens.
The session also highlighted the aspiration to advance science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) skills in the students. The minister said initiatives such as introducing technology, engineering and art as subjects, and drawing inspiration from Singapore, Hong Kong and Turkiye, are in the pipeline.
The issue of school bullying was also addressed, with the minister presenting data that indicates a drop in bullying incidents. – Fadley Faisal
