The series of meetings have harmonised various work streams under different sectoral bodies within ASEAN and beyond. Digitalisation and sustainability remain important themes.
This was said by Chair of ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC) Brunei and Dynamik Technologies Chief Executive Officer Haslina binti Haji Mohd Taib at the 94th ASEAN-BAC Meeting, AEM-ASEAN BAC Interface and 20th JBC Meeting on September 14 to 15 at Sokha Siem Reap Resort and Convention Centre in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
ASEAN-BAC members from the Sultanate attended.
She added, “We are pleased that the first milestone is completed in the Brunei legacy project AKREDI, supporting movement of talent and resources across the region.”
Delegations from the private sector in the 10 ASEAN countries and ASEAN partners attended in-person. The meeting held an interface with the ASEAN economic ministers (AEM) on September 15.
The 10 AEM and the ASEAN Secretary-General took into consideration the recommendations by the ASEAN-BAC. Broad issues including the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), healthcare, green energy transition, digital transformation, and supply chain connectivity and resilience were discussed.
Adinin Group of Companies Managing Director Haji Musa bin Haji Adinin said, “Support from AEM and solidarity from ASEAN partners play an important role in maintaining unity.”
On the announcement of ABA 2022 applications being open, Musa, as Co-Chair ABA 2021, invited participation from members of the business community.
“Their applications will provide unique opportunities to benchmark their business against the competition as well as the chance to expand their network and explore potential alliances,” he said.
PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd General Manager Haji Muhammad Sabirin bin Haji Othman said, “The importance of the contribution of ASEAN-BAC was acknowledged in representing the views from the private sector.”
Meanwhile, Brunei council members also participated in the 55th East Asia Business Council (EABC) on September 16.
EABC Chairman Neak Oknha Kith Meng stated that recommendations focussed on three areas, namely facilitating the implementation of RCEP, unlocking productivity gains from digital innovation and rebuilding a resilient supply chain in the region.
As a member of EABC as well as ASEAN Business Council, Musa attended the interface with AEM Plus Three.
