Recipients of medals and book prizes can continue to improve their knowledge by instilling a lifelong learning attitude to ensure that they are future-proof, industry-ready and have a high chance of gaining employment or are able to independently create job opportunities.
Echoing His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah during the 34th Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Convocation Ceremony, was UBD Vice-Chancellor Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle at an awards ceremony, in conjunction with the convocation ceremony, at the UBD Chancellor Hall yesterday.
Eighty-one UBD students received university medals, book prizes and excellence awards.
Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, who is also the Deputy Chairman of UBD Council, attended as the guest of honour.
Dr Hazri revealed that this year one student will receive the Vice Chancellor’s Medal which recognises high academic achievements, contributions inside and outside of the university, representing the university in regional and international competition as well as display of exemplary leadership.
He shared that as many as five Bachelors degree graduates will receive University Silver medals awarded to those who are top in their programmes.
Meanwhile, 13 Master’s degree and 68 Bachelors degree graduates received university Book Prizes.
One student from diploma level received an excellence award and three students received BLNG Excellence awards.
This year’s Vice-Chancellor’s Medal went to Zheng Jia Hui, BSc (Biology).
Zheng Jia Hui is from China studying under the Brunei government scholarship for international students.
The recipients of the University Silver Medals are Zziza Sulaimani, BA in Geography, Environment and Development; Chin Chiew Fong, BHSc in Biomedical Sciences; Lim Huey Theeng, BSc in Computer Science; Ruvimbo Rita Njawaya, Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Finance; and Wong Yen Shin, BEng in Chemical and Process Engineering.
