Malaysia’s FDI rises to USD215B Q2

KUALA LUMPUR (XINHUA) – Malaysia’s foreign direct investment (FDI) increased MYR16.2 billion (USD3.65 billion) from the previous quarter to MYR954.2 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2024, official data showed on Friday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the services sector remained the largest recipient with a value of MYR485 billion, or 50.8 per cent.

This was followed by manufacturing (MYR398.5 billion, or 41.8 per cent) and mining and quarrying (MYR46 billion, 4.8 per cent).

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s direct investment abroad (DIA) position decreased to MYR671.8 billion as compared to MYR683.6 billion ~at the end of the previous quarter.

The services sector was the main contributor to DIA position (MYR469.2 billion), followed by mining and quarrying (MYR79.9 billion) and manufacturing (MYR59.9 billion).
