Malaysian PM calls for rally against Israeli atrocities

KUALA LUMPUR (ANN/THE STAR) – Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim called on citizens to unite in condemnation of the Zionist regime’s atrocities against Palestine.

He said this can be done at the “Malaysia Stands with Palestine Rally” at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday night, Bernama reported.

“We will demand a ceasefire, an end to the attacks, facilitation of humanitarian aid, an end to the brutality, injustice and sufferings that have been going on for so long. See you tonight!” he posted on Facebook.

Approximately 10,000 people were expected to attend the rally organised jointly by over 40 non-governmental organisations, including Malaysian Humanitarian Aid And Relief (Mahar) and the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (Mapim).

The rally, scheduled to take place from 6pm to 11pm, will also include mass Maghrib and Hajat prayers, and recitation of Qunut Nazilah.

Rally participants were encouraged to wear white and wave the national flags of Palestine and Malaysia to show Malaysia’s solidarity with Palestine.

Anwar had taken Malaysia’s voice to the world stage and called on the international community to put an end to the cruel treatment and hypocrisy towards the Palestinian people during his working visit to Saudi Arabia to attend the first ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit last week.

He reiterated the same matter during meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul on Sunday and Egypt President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo on Monday.
