A variety of locally-produced vegetables, fish, and meat products are on display at the 14th Farmers, Livestock Breeders, and Fishermen’s Day celebration held at Pasar Kitani, Agribusiness Centre in Rimba.
Running from today until November 4, the event, themed “Memperkasa Produk Tambah Nilai, Pemacu Ekonomi Negara” (Empowering Value-Added Products, Driving the National Economy), aims to spotlight local produce from Brunei’s agriculture, fisheries, and agrifood industries.
Daily activities organised by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood include exhibitions, briefings, interactive sessions, weight-guessing games, group competitions in kelupis-making, quizzes, and demonstrations on fruit-based ice cream making, among others.
The annual celebration, observed on November 1, was established by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 2009 during the Agriculture and Agrifood Expo to honour the contributions of farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen to Brunei’s food security and economic growth.
Present to observe the event was Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab.
The event will culminate in an appreciation night for Farmers, Livestock Breeders, and Fishermen on November 5 at Damai Ballroom, Aman Hills Hotel. – JAMES KON
