The Kampong Ayer Cultural and Tourism Gallery launched the ‘Sustain and Change’ Art Exhibition yesterday.
It is co-organised by the Tourism Development Department at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, and Kunyit 7 Lodge. Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, the guest of honour, inaugurated the exhibition.
Focusing on the works of local artists, the exhibition highlights the essence of Kampong Ayer, promotes art and culture in the Sultanate and nurtures the creative skills of local artists by providing a platform to showcase their paintings.
Dayangku Kemariah binti Pengiran Haji Duraman from Kunyit 7 Lodge believes in the importance of art in conveying the rich history of Kampong Ayer to the public, stressing that art plays a vital role in raising awareness on social issues and uniting people, regardless of their backgrounds or ethnicities.
British High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Joe Virgoe, deputy permanent secretaries, department heads and local artists attended.
The exhibition is open to the public until August 25. The exhibition features 40 paintings that delves into the life of Kampong Ayer residents. – Adib Noor
