‘Lakastah Bersedia’ showcases retirement planning

Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah launched the Retirement Planning Certification Program at the Lakastah Bersedia event yesterday.

The certification programme aims to equip financial practitioners with accurate information on retirement planning, particularly on the National Retirement Scheme (SPK) or SPK annuity.

The event, themed ‘Bijak Merancang, Bahagia Bersara’, is part of the Employees Trust Fund’s (TAP) initiative to support members planning to retire in the next 10 to 15 years.

The public event highlights the importance of early financial and personal preparation for retirement.

The minister, who is also TAP Chairman, recalled His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s consent to introduce the SPK last July, aiming to secure a reliable income for retirees.

He added, “TAP encourages its members to boost their savings beyond the SPK annuity through voluntary contributions and external financial products, supporting both immediate needs and a secure financial future for retirement.”

The event, the minister highlighted “will focus on the importance of early, holistic retirement planning, financial independence, security, and protection against scams. It also covers the social dynamics of retirement and legacy planning to ensure loved ones are cared for.”

Following the launch, the minister toured the exhibition booths at the event.
