The Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued a compound fine of BND1,000 to a local hotel in the Belait District on Saturday.
The hotel was found to have improperly installed a sewage drainage pipe linked to a public drainage, polluting public areas behind the shops on Jalan Pretty. The fine was issued under Chapter 12(1)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021. The hotel has been given seven days to settle the fine. Failure to do so will result in the case being brought to court.
If found guilty, fines between BND1,000 and BND3,000 will be levied for the first offence, and up to BND3,000, imprisonment of no more than three months, or both, for subsequent offences.
The agency also reminded the public to practise proper disposal of trash at designated areas, adding that it is the duty of the public to keep the environment clean. – Daniel Lim
