SEOUL (ANN/THE KOREA HERALD) – The British Phonographic Industry announced Blackpink’s gold certification on Tuesday for their debut studio album, “The Album”, marking a milestone first for a K-pop female quartet or artist to achieve 100,000 sales in the United Kingdom.
Released in May 2020, “The Album” reached No 2 on both the Billboard 200 and the UK’s Official Top Albums chart.
It stayed on the Billboard 200 for 26 consecutive weeks, setting a record for a K-pop female act.
The lead single “Lovesick Girls” peaked at No 59 on Billboard’s Hot 100, while the pre-release track “How You Like That” reached No 33.
“The Album” also became the first million-seller from a K-pop girl group, surpassing 1.2 million copies sold.
In December last year, all four members renewed their contracts for group activities with YG Entertainment.
