JPES announces houselisting work in preparation for labour force survey

The Department of Economic Planning and Statistics (JPES) under the Ministry of Finance and Economy is conducting houselisting until July 21 for each household within a designated area, the department said in a statement yesterday.

Survey officers will visit the housing units to collect the information needed. After obtaining the information, the survey officers will affix a sticker to each housing unit.

Among the information needed are the name and telephone number of the head of households, the total number of household members, and the address of the selected households.

“In facilitating a safe and efficient survey process, at first the selected households are reminded to verify the identity of survey officers by checking their survey passes, appointment letters, identity cards, and JPES official vests,” the department said.

The statement also reminded households with pets, particularly dogs, to ensure that their pets are restrained for the safety of the survey officers during their visit.

The department added that the information from selected participating households collected during the survey “will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for statistical purposes only”.

The statement also said that, in pursuant to Section 9 of the Statistics Act, the failure or reluctance to give the required information or furnish false particulars is an offence which carries a penalty of a fine of BND4,000.

“Hence, the support and cooperation from all selected households are essential for the success of the survey.”

The purpose of houselisting is to create a comprehensive and up-to-date database and information that can be used for the Labour Force Survey (LFS), which will take place from October 14 to November 10.

LFS 2024 is conducted under the Chapter 81 of the Statistics Act.

The results of the survey will be used by the government to formulate effective and comprehensive economic and social policies.
