An attempt to smuggle 144 bottles of alcohol into the country was foiled by police personnel of Company ‘C’ Police Reserve Unit and personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) during a daily patrol in Kampong Puni, Temburong District, according to the RBPF.
A vehicle was inspected after it entered Jalan Kampong Puni ‘A’ which was then parked in a suspicious manner at the end of the junction. Several boxes believed to be contraband wrapped in plastic were found.
The boxes were placed in the rear passenger seat and the car’s bonnet. The driver fled before police personnel arrived at the scene. The vehicle and contraband were brought to the Bangar Police Station for investigation.
The case was handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department.
The RBPF urged the public to share any information on criminal activities on hotline 993 or at the nearest police station. – James Kon
