The Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) and the Department of Labour collaborated to organise an outreach programme at Tripartite Hall at the department’s headquarters recently, emphasising the importance of adhering to safety standards as well as safeguarding workers’ rights and welfare.
The event gathered representatives from various construction companies to enhance awareness of workplace safety and employment regulations.
Key topics presented by Department of Labour officers included provisions of the Employment Order, 2009 and Anti-Trafficking in Person, Chapter 230.
SHENA shared insights from its inspection and monitoring activities, highlighting common non-compliance issues observed at construction sites such as unsafe work-at-height practices and improper use of equipment and machinery.
SHENA and the Department of Labour aim to maintain the collaboration through regular outreach initiatives targeting the private sectors.
The efforts seek to strengthen understanding of the legal framework governing workplace safety and employment in the Sultanate.
