Johor child abduction believed to be premeditated

JOHOR BARU (ANN/THE STAR) – The man believed to have been involved in the kidnapping of six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hu recently is believed to have tendencies of sexual misconduct towards children.

State police chief Comm M. Kumar said this was based on materials, including child pornographic materials, found in the 31-year-old suspect’s house in Kulai.

“We are not using the term paedophile as that is a clinical term that requires confirmation from medical experts,” he said in a press conference at the Johor police headquarters on Thursday.

Comm Kumar said this in response to a question on the motive behind the kidnapping.

“We believe that he did not target his victim randomly and had been observing her before abducting her,” he said, adding that the kidnapping was also believed to have been planned earlier.

He added that the suspect, an unemployed man, did not have any criminal records prior to the incident.

Earlier, the suspect, Leang Win Son, was slapped with several charges, including for abducting and illegally confining a six-year-old, at the Kulai and Johor Baru courts.
