The Department of Community Development (JAPEM) has issued a warning to the public regarding a fake TikTok account using the username “@sultanhajihassanabolkiah,” which has falsely claimed that Brunei residents can register for Monthly Welfare Assistance (BKB) amounting to BND500.00 and for His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s personal gift in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
In an official statement, JAPEM confirmed that the information being circulated is entirely false. The department also clarified that it has no affiliation with the mentioned TikTok account, which has unlawfully used JAPEM’s official logo as its profile picture.

The public is urged to exercise caution, verify the authenticity of information before believing or sharing it on social media, and avoid providing personal details to unverified sources. JAPEM takes this misuse of its official logo seriously and has reported the matter to the relevant authorities.
The department further reminded the public that spreading false information with the intent to mislead is a serious offense under the Public Order Act, Cap 148, Section 34. Individuals found guilty of disseminating false reports or making false statements that disrupt public order may face imprisonment for up to three years, a fine of BND 3,000, or both.
To report any issues concerning public welfare or to verify official information, the public is encouraged to contact JAPEM via the 141 Call Centre, which operates 24 hours a day. This official platform ensures that reports and complaints are addressed effectively while preventing the spread of misinformation that could disrupt public order.
JAPEM continues to monitor the situation closely and urges the public to remain vigilant against the spread of fake news on social media. – James Kon
