The vehicles sustained minor scratches, and the accident did not affect the prime minister’s schedule, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi told a regular press briefing.
A car dedicated to transporting the prime minister was also involved in an accident in December. Ishiba and others escaped uninjured when his official vehicle rear-ended a police car in the western Japanese prefecture of Tottori.
The car hit the police vehicle, which had stopped for a red light at an intersection.
