International Women’s Day event fosters dialogue, reflection

The International Women’s Club of Brunei (IWCB) hosted an International Women’s Day celebration themed ‘Accelerate Action’ on Saturday.

United States (US) Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn McClelland engaged with the audience by sharing her journey to becoming a US ambassador and highlighting her achievements. Rather than a formal keynote address, the session evolved into an interactive conversation, with lively exchanges between the attendees.

The event commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by welcoming speeches from Public Relations Officer Hajah Mahanum Abu Zar and IWCB President Ungku Datin Hajah Fanzah binti Haji Osman, who thanked the ambassadors, heads of missions, their spouses and guests for attending and their continuous support towards the club. The celebration ended with an iftar with the guests.

International Women’s Day falls on March 8 every year. This year’s theme calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.  – Lyna Mohamad
