Indonesian nationals urged to register for migrant worker protection

Indonesian nationals residing or working in Brunei Darussalam need to report themselves on the Portal Peduli WNI application and register for BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership for protection as a migrant worker, said Chargé d’Affaires Ad Interim of Indonesian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam Irwan Iding.

He said this at the opening of a Consular and Labour Services and BPJS Employment Membership Registration event, held by the Indonesian Embassy at the Swiss Hotel in Kuala Belait from March 2-3.

Some 200 Indonesian nationals residing in the district attended. They came for various needs such as to renew passports and other consular documents, as well as registering for BPJS membership.

During the two-day event, the Indonesian Labour Attaché for Brunei Darussalam also held a free medical check programme, which included checking blood sugar levels, uric acid, cholesterol and blood pressure. Individuals were also provided with medicine and vitamins for free.

On the first day of the event, the Indonesian Embassy held a BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Membership Socialisation and tutorial on using the Portal Peduli WNI application which demonstrates the procedures of reporting of arrivals, changing addresses, and departure back for good to their hometown in Indonesia.

During a hybrid discussion between the participants and Relationship Manager from the headquarters of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan in Jakarta Annisa Kusumawardhani, she emphasised the importance of Indonesian migrant workers participation in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to protect them from employment risks that could arise suddenly in the future. – Lyna Mohamad
