JAKARTA (Bernama) – Indonesia is drafting new regulations to safeguard children from online risks, including age restrictions on digital platforms, the Ministry of Communications and Digital announced.
Minister Meutya Hafid said the measures aim to shield children from harmful content, such as violence and pornography, while promoting safe and responsible technology use.
“Children are exposed to risky content such as violence and pornography. We must act immediately,” she said in a statement.
The regulations, expected to be finalised within two months, are part of President Prabowo Subianto’s push to strengthen child protection in digital spaces.
The rules will be included in a draft government regulation on child protection in digital governance and will classify online platforms based on their risk levels for children.
The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has warned of online dangers, including location-sharing tools and deceptive content.
“There are adorable cartoons, but when clicked, they turn out to be full of traps! Not to mention features that allow children’s locations to be tracked. This is dangerous!” KPAI head Ai Maryati Solihah said.
