A man was issued a BND100 compound fine by the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe) for littering at a parking lot near the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha (RIPAS) Bridge on November 28.
The offender, identified as Mohammad Amirun Ilmi bin Shahron, was penalised under Chapter 12(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act (Amendment) 2021. He has been given seven days to settle the fine, failing which the case will be referred to court.
Offenders convicted in court face a fine ranging from BND1,000 to BND3,000 for the first offence. Repeat offences carry heavier penalties, including fines between BND3,000 and BND9,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both.
JASTRe reiterated its commitment to maintaining cleanliness and urged the public to act responsibly by disposing of waste in designated areas to preserve the environment.
