Indian Association plants 78 saplings for Sultan’s birthday

“It is necessary for us and our children to know our surroundings and nature,” said Indian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Alok Amitabh Dimri.

He said this during a tree-planting event at the Berakas park yesterday, held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday celebration.

The event, hosted by the Bandar Seri Begawan Indian Association (BSBIA) in collaboration with the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe), saw the high commissioner lead the tree-planting, inviting the children present to join him.

The high commissioner hopes that the event, especially with the participation of the young family members and children, will instil love for the environment and support the initiatives on its preservation.

The event, which aims to promote environmental awareness and contribute to the local ecosystem, followed with BSBIA members and their families planting 78 acacia saplings, with guidance from JASTRe.

BSBIA’s President Murugesan and Vice-President Sujaya Kamat were also present at the event, coordinated by Arunprasath and Imran khan, with support from BSBIA General Secretary Bharathidasan. – Lyna Mohamad
