The Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School were crowned the champions of the Sixth Form Centre Category, while the Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School, Tutong, were champions of the Secondary School Category in the finals of the Ministry of Education’s National Nasyid Competition 2024 for Secondary Schools, Sixth Form Centres and Colleges on Thursday night.
The event was held at the Festival Stage in front of the Royal Regalia Museum in conjunction with the 78th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
Director of Co-Curriculum Education, Department of Co-Curriculum Education, Ministry of Education Awang Julaihi bin Mohamad/Mohamat was guest of honour to present the prizes and certificates to the participants.
The competition was conducted in a hybrid manner and had two stages: the Preliminary Stage through video recordings and the Final Stage held in person at the festival stage.
The competition was divided into two categories: Secondary Schools and Sixth Form Centres, participated by students from Government and Private Secondary Schools, Sixth Form Centres, and Colleges under the Ministry of Education, as well as Arabic Schools under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, with four groups in each category competing in the final stage.
The Sixth Form Centre Category’s runner-up was the Tutong Sixth Form Centre team, while third place went to a second team from the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys’ Secondary School.
Meanwhile, the Secondary School Category’s runner-up spot went to Sayyidina Husain Secondary School, and Seri Mulia Sarjana Secondary School placed third.
One of the aims of this competition was to serve as a platform for knowledge, fostering interaction and strengthening relationships among the participants, while simultaneously enhancing the Islamic syiar and dakwah through nasyid.
It also aims to expose and introduce students to various Islamic cultural arts, alongside the appreciation and practice of Islamic teachings.
The competition is hoped to educate students to collaborate as a team in presenting Islamic arts and entertainment.
Additionally, it is hoped to cultivate and enhance a strong sense of goodwill among the participants in appreciating Islamic teachings while enlivening the 78th Birthday Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
