His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday attended a meeting with President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov at the JW Marriot Hotel in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China.

Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.

During the meeting, His Majesty delivered a titah stating that Brunei Darussalam and the Kyrgyz Republic have maintained warm and friendly relations since establishing diplomatic ties in 1996. His Majesty expressed pleasure that both sides are also working closely in international forums such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations (UN).

On bilateral relations, His Majesty expressed belief that there is potential for both countries to deepen ties. Thus, it is good that officials of both countries are looking into visa waiver arrangements, which will encourage more visits between the Sultanate and the Kyrgyz Republic.

His Majesty expressed support on the Kyrgyz Republic’s candidacies at the UN including the UN Security Council as well as extended an invitation for the president to visit Brunei.

Diplomatic relations between the Sultanate and the Kyrgyz Republic were first established on March 15, 1996, in which both countries cooperate mainly in the fields of defence, education, health and culture.
