His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam led a team, comprising His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik as well as Cabinet ministers to victory in a special tug-of-war match against a team comprising permanent secretaries at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday.
The match took place after the prize presentation for the National Tug-of-War Championship, held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 78th birthday celebration.
It came after the completion of Royal Birthday Cycling Recreation 2024 event.
The monarch presented prizes to the championship winners and received a pesambah from Brunei Darussalam Tug of War Association President Pengiran Iskandar bin Pengiran Haji Jaded.
The Ministry of Defence beat the Prime Minister’s Office to win the inter-ministry and embassies category and a trophy sponsored by His Majesty.
Team Sabah defeated Brunei Darussalam to win the Borneo category and lifted a trophy sponsored by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah. Team Labuan and Team Sarawak were in third and fourth places.
KB Bulls Brothers from the Belait District beat Team Chainblock from the Brunei-Muara District to win Category ‘C’ for youth under the age of 19. – James Kon
