To create a conducive business ecosystem, particularly in the context of a Smart Nation, efforts towards the development of a digital payment hub led by National Digital Payments Network Sendirian Berhad are expected to be launched soon.
This was among the number of national initiatives highlighted by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his titah during the audience and investiture ceremony that took place at Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana of Istana Nurul Iman on Monday.
The Monarch went on to say that the effort holds great potential in generating growth in cashless transactions through various current multimedia platforms.
In international affairs, His Majesty said the year 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Brunei Darussalam and foreign countries, as well as its membership in regional and international organisations.
“The foreign policy practised over the past four decades has enabled the country to maintain strong relationships and cooperation with strategic partners,” added the Monarch.
“This principle of cooperation and mutual understanding also emphasises the importance of the country’s commitment at regional and international levels.”
Among these is the commitment to climate change through the ‘Paris Agreement’, targeting a 20 per cent reduction in national greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
His Majesty also noted Brunei’s Government is preparing a National Adaptation Plan to enhance the country’s resilience to the impacts of climate change. Additionally, in pursuing development, environmental sustainability will remain a key agenda for the country.
