Haze forces Lumut Bypass closure

Localised haze persisted in several areas of the Belait District due to ongoing bush and forest fires, affecting visibility.

The Sungai Bera and Anduki areas were heavily impacted on Wednesday, resulting in the closure of the nearby Lumut Bypass Highway. Commuters were redirected to use the old Lumut-Anduki Road until conditions improve.

Additionally, haze has reached nearby Seria Town, though with less severity compared to other affected areas.

Efforts are underway to address the fires and mitigate their impact.

The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department reported excessive hot weather conditions on March 23-26, with the highest temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius recorded in Kampong Lekiun, Mukim Batu Apoi in Temburong District last Saturday.

Forecasted daily maximum temperatures will range between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius, with March rainfall expected to be slightly below normal. The weather will be hot and dry with occasional haze.

Pollutant Standard Index readings from air quality monitoring stations (Particulate Matter 10) in the Brunei-Muara, Tutong, and Belait districts were within the ‘moderate’ range, while Temburong’s reading fell within the ‘good’ range. – Daniel Lim
