A sponsorship handover ceremony for the upcoming 2025 Kampong Telisai Mosque Citizens and Invited Teams seven-a-side Football Championship was held at the Tutong District Mosque Affairs Office yesterday.
Sponsor Abdul Adib bin Haji Abdul Khani handed over the football jerseys to Tutong District Head Mosque Officer Haji Md Aidil Soffian. Through the launch of the tournament, Abdul Adib said that the involvement of government and the community will help strengthen relations and can serve as a platform to unearth young talents into the national level.
The tournament is a continuation of the success of the previous year and being a sports event that combines sports elements and religious values, the tournament not only provides opportunities for players to showcase their skills but also foster a spirit of brotherhood and love in an atmosphere full of blessings.
Organised by the Kampong Telisai Mosque Takmir Committee, with the cooperation of the Kampong Telisai Village Consultative Council and Persatuan Ikatan Melayu Telisai (PRIMET) Tutong, the second edition of the tournament is considered a unique and significant platform in strengthening social relationships and promoting a healthy lifestyle among the residents of Kampong Telisai.
The tournament aims to strengthen the relationship between sports and religion as a vehicle to unite the community; provide a platform to spread awareness about the importance of physical fitness in everyday life and create opportunities to interact and communicate between various layers of society in Kampong Telisai.
The tournament is open to eight teams – three invited teams and five teams – open to residents of Kampong Telisai. The three invited teams are Kampong Telisai Takmir Mosque; Tutong Mosque Affairs Office and Telisai Primary School Teachers.
The tournament will be contested in a round robin format and teams will be divided into Group ‘A’ and ‘B’, where the top two teams will advance to the semi-finals and subsequently the finals with the losers of the semi-finals chasing for third place.
According to a working paper prepared by Kampong Telisai Bilal Mosque Hazwan Hamizan bin Haminuddin, each team must field at least one veteran player aged 45 and above on the field.
Players who have been shown a red card will be prohibited from playing the next two matches while players who receive two yellow cards during the match will be suspended for one match. – Fadhil Yunus
