Thirty-two saplings were planted at Berakas Forest Reserve Recreational Park to mark the 32nd anniversary of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation for Vocational and Technical Education and Training (SEAMEO Voctech) Regional Centre yesterday.
Director Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar officiated the activity that saw Hibiscus Tiliaceus, Casuarina Equisetifolia and Calophyllum Inophyllum planted at a 0.00675-hectare site.
SEAMEO Voctech Deputy Director of Administration Pengiran Haji Mohd Sufri bin Pengiran Ali said the centre has appointed a company to monitor and carry out maintenance of the saplings over the period of one year.
He said the initiative supports the Ministry of Education’s Green Protocol aimed at increasing Brunei’s carbon sink through afforestation and reforestation programmes with a goal of planting 500,000 trees by 2035.
