Several special awards were presented as a show of appreciation to graduates and students who excelled in academics either in the curriculum or co-curriculum, during the Graduate Night in conjunction with the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) 14th Convocation Ceremony at Tarindak D’Seni on Thursday night.
A total of 16 graduates received the Dean’s Award, five received the Dean’s Award in Education and four received the Dean’s Award in the Co-curriculum and Additional Curriculum.
Assistant Ra’es (Academic Affairs) of KUPU SB Dr Hajah Norwati binti Haji Abu Bakar, as chairperson of the Graduate Night in conjunction with KUPU SB’s 14th Convocation Ceremony in her welcoming remarks said, “With this award, it is hoped that it will be an injection of enthusiasm and motivation to the recipients of the award so that they can continue to achieve success in life and career in the future, as well as contribute to the progress of science, religion, society and the country.”
She continued, “It is hoped that this award will be an inspiration and a role model for their friends.”
The event also coincided with the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) with five overseas institutions, for the religious higher education institution to achieve excellence in teaching and research. The five overseas higher education institutions include Universitas Al-Falah Sunniyah, Kencong Jember, Indonesia; Universitas Islam Negeri Alauddin, Makassar, Indonesia; Institut Agama Islam Bakti Negara, Tegal Indonesia; Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah, Malaysia; and Kolej Universiti Darul Quran Islamiyyah, Terengganu, Malaysia.
Signing the agreement on behalf of KUPU SB was Ra’es Dr Abdul Nasir bin Haji Abdul Rani and witnessed by the guest of honour. The signatory is a form of response to further increase cooperation and sharing best experience between KUPU SB and regional higher education institutions.
The areas of cooperation include exchange of students and staff, exchange of publications, collaborative research programme as well as teaching and collaboration in any field that benefit both parties.
The ceremony also saw the launch of a book titled Shariah Wealth and Financial Management.
The book, published by KUPU SB, is written by Shahizan Haji Md Noh, Abdul Nasir Haji Abdul Rani and Hakimah Haji Yaacob.
The book contains 10 chapters expressing the importance of good and holistic financial management in bridging the relationship between financial behaviour and the financial well-being of society.
A combination of financial planning with Islamic financial principles provides an approach which is meaningful and balanced, in line with Maqasid Al-Shariah.
The event also witnessed the acceptance of wakaf tarbiyah contributions from graduates. The endowment is indirectly a manifestation and symbol of graduates’ appreciation to KUPU SB in general and the academic staff of KUPU SB especially for the contribution of services provided during their studies. – Fadhil Yunus
