A forum on parenting was organised by the MAWAR Association at the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation (SEAMEO) for Vocational and Technical Education and Training Regional Centre yesterday.
The forum catered to parents with children under 18 years old, as well as prospective parents with the objective of providing guidance and support for children’s development at every stage.
For children below seven years old, the focus was on mind-stimulating play, social interactions and establishing daily routines. For children aged eight to 11, the emphasis was on support in formal education, self-discipline and social skills development.
Meanwhile, for children aged 12 to 18, the focus was on open communication, emotional support, decision-making guidance and engagement in sports and arts.
The forum also emphasised the importance of parents’ role in building resilience, demonstrating coping strategies, and providing a supportive environment.
“This understanding is crucial to ensure children grow up with strong resilience and essential life skills,” said the organisers. – Rokiah Mahmud
